Family of 12 who dined and dashed on £260 bill pay up after being shamed

A group of 12 who were shamed by a restaurant for "dine and dashing" on their £260 bill have now gone back to pay up.

The party of adults and children visited the popular Cornwall pub, the Britannia Inn and Waves. The pub shared CCTV footage of the group on social media after they "fled" without paying.

Their bill included pricey meals including £25 steaks, plus £3 peppercorn sauce, and a £17.50 lasagne. It was washed down with four pints of Madri lager at £6.20 each, and 10 pints of Stella Artois lager – £5.90 per drink.

Kids meals included penne pasta, chicken nuggets, and a sausage and chips. The full bill was shared on the pub's Facebook page, along with CCTV images in the hope of tracking down the bill jumpers.

Now that the group have returned to pay their outstanding bill, the pub posted a new post. They said: "MASSIVE THANK YOU AGAIN To everyone for sharing our posts & for contacting us with info on last week's scammers.

“You really have played your part in highlighting some less desirable people we live amongst in our community. After revealing one of the scammer's identity yesterday, a family member contacted us & settled the bill in full.

“Let’s hope they get reimbursed by their shameful relatives. Thank you good people out there and stay vigilant from these types in the future. The Britannia team."

According to The Mirror, staff claimed that the group had waited for them to be out of the room before they all headed for the exit adding that it appeared as if they were taking their children to the play area.

A previous Facebook post said that they had managed to identify them through people getting in contact with them. The message read: "Thanks to the good public and some home detective work by ourselves, we now have the names of the adults in our CCTV photos. We hope the scammers come forward by Friday AM, or we will be sharing All the names with police and on social media!"
