I-70 crash: Peña Boulevard exit closed for diesel fuel spill

The northbound ramp to Peña Boulevard on eastbound Interstate 70 has reopened after a two-vehicle crash shut down the exit early Monday morning.

At 5:39 a.m., the Aurora Police Department posted on X, the social media platform previously known as Twitter, that officers were on the scene of the crash and the ramp was closed.

Paramedics took both drivers to local hospitals with serious injuries, police said.

The crash caused a diesel fuel spill, closing the Peña Boulevard exit for several hours for clean up, Aurora police said in an update.

The cleaning crew arrived at 8 a.m., more than two hours after the crash, and by 8:54 a.m. Peña Boulevard had reopened.

Officers remain in the area as they wait on a tow truck for one of the vehicles involved in the crash. One lane may need to be closed again briefly when the truck arrives to remove the vehicle from the side of the road.
