Covid 19 coronavirus: Will the community cluster remain contained?

As New Zealanders enjoy the long Labour weekend, all eyes are on Auckland where hundreds are being tested for signs of Covid-19 in the community.

The Ministry of Health is due to issue

details in the daily update at 1pm.

The latest community cluster is stalled at three after a marine engineer is believed to have contracted the virus while working on the Sofrana Surville ship.

Another person who worked on the ship and a colleague of the engineer have also tested positive.

But there have been no new cases for four days.

The Ministry of Health yesterday continued to implore Kiwis to stay home if they were sick and get advice from Healthline about getting a test and to use the Covid Tracer app.

Ministry data shows daily scans in the app have plummeted since their peak of 2.5 million in one day in early September to just 500,000 a day before the weekend.

After a plea to use the app from Health Minister Chris Hipkins and director general of health Ashley Bloomfield on Friday, daily scans doubled to almost 1 million a day over the weekend.
