Speaking at a press conference to close this years G7 summit in Cornwall, Prime Minister Boris Johnson said it is “sensible” to keep “open mind” that coronavirus leaked from a Wuhan lab. According to Mr Johnson G7 ministers discussed the theory in private despite no evidence suggesting the virus orginated in a lab.

The Prime Minister said: “I do think there is a problem with zoonotic diseases, this is clearly the thing we have to focus on.

And it is the practice that seems to be particualry prevelant in some parts of Asia and South East Asia of farming wild animals, that is really where the risks are.

“At the moment the advice that we have had so far it doesn’t look as thiugh this particualr zoonotic disease came from a lab.

“But I think anyone sensible would want to keep an open mind about that.”

Foreign Secretary Dominic Raab has said more information is needed about the origin of the coronavirus outbreak in China.

Mr Raab said officials at the G7 summit in Cornwall had “compared notes” over the theory that it originated from a leak from a laboratory in Wuhan.

He said the UK’s “best information” remained that it “jumped” from animals to humans but admitted they did not have “all the answers”.

“That’s why internationally we wanted the review to be able to go into China to get all the answers, so that we have the full picture rather than these possible, potential, plausible options,” he told Sky News’s Trevor Phillips on Sunday programme.

“But, on balance, we do not believe that it came from a laboratory. We think it is much more likely to have jumped from animal species.”
