Brexit: Heseltine warns 'more trouble' to come for PM and UK

Columnist Liam Halligan said: “Since the Brexit referendum, the ‘immediate and profound economic shock,’ which HM Treasury consistently warned would follow any leave vote, didn’t happen.

“Over the last six years, in fact, including the troughs and peaks of lockdown, UK GDP has expanded at an accumulated rate of 6.8percent, more than France (6.2percent), Germany (5.5percent) and Italy (2.1percent).”

Mr Halligan, writing in the Sunday Telegraph, added that judging the substantial fall in UK trade was both “far too early” and difficult to accomplish due to the impact of the pandemic. The columnist claimed however that a “small but highly influential” group were trying to get the UK back into the EU, despite the “blindingly obvious statistics” showing the UK’s maintained growth since the referendum.

Boris Johnson must “really” get Brexit done if he wants to stay in the Government, suggested Nigel Farage as he speaks about the ongoing election crisis.

The lifelong Brexiteer and pioneer of the movement to get the UK out of the EU criticised Mr Johnson for folding to the demands of Brussels during negotiations in 2019. 

Writing for MailOnline, Mr Farage said: “What people voted for in 2016 was a proper Brexit.

“As a Prime Minister on the ropes who appears to want to remain in power, he should listen rather carefully to this message.”
