John Bercow has come under fire from political commentator Christian Calgie for switching allegiance to the Labour Party. The former Speaker of the House of Commons has declared he is now backing Sir Keir Starmer to be Prime Minister after attacking Boris Johnson as a “lousy governor” and accusing the Tory leader of misleading Parliament. Mr Calgie was damning of Mr Bercow’s conduct branding him a “dreadful man.”

Mr Calgie told TalkRADIO: “There is not mourning this particular loss.

“I in fact I am amazed and astonished that so many Labour MPs have been welcoming the news.

“Because lest we forget John Bercow is still under an active bullying investigation from his time as speaker.

“Which by the way I am going to stick my neck out on and say he did it and he did it constantly.

“He is a dreadful man, good riddance,” he added.

“I disappointed the Observer are giving him any airtime whatsoever.

“But there you are he is now a professional attention seeker having not got into the Lords.”

It comes as Mr Bercow branded Boris Johnson a “lousy governor” during an anti-Tory tirade on Sky News.

Boris Johnson 'treated parliament with contempt' says Bercow

Mr Bercow told the Sky News host Trevor Phillips: “My values are left of centre, I do not identify with the Conservative Party.

“If you believe as I do that this government is bad news, unfit to govern and the Prime Minister though a successful campaigner is a lousy governor, ” he continued.

“You have to ask yourself do you want rid of it and if you want rid of it you have then to pose to yourself the question and to answer it.

“How is that to be achieved? The reality of the matter is that in the United Kingdom the only credible vehicle for the removal of this Government is the election of a Labour government.”
