June Mummery has launched a furious attack on the UK’s fishing deal with the European Union as EU boats continue to plunder British waters. The Prime Minister signed a Trade and Corporation Agreement with the EU last December and agreed to reduce EU fishing quotas by just 25 percent over the next five years.

Last week, the first annual quotas were negotiated with the EU and British fishermen saw catch limits increase for just eight stocks.

The former Brexit Party MEP shared her frustration on Twitter after condemning the latest fishing arrangements on the BBC’s Sunday Politics.

Ms Mummery appeared on the show that was filmed at a fishing port in Lowestoft alongside Tory MP for Waveney, Peter Aldous, and local fishermen Paul Lines.

She tweeted: “’Codswallop’… Paul Lines and I with MP Peter Aldous on this weeks Sunday Politics Show.

“I am so fed up with MPs and Government trying to pull the wool over The Great British Public’s eyes admit it the UK fishing industry, coastal communities were ‘SOLD OUT’.”

Ms Mummery, who owns a fish auction, said there was nothing positive to say about the annual quotas deal and branded the whole fishing ordeal the “biggest betrayal”.

Speaking to the BBC, she said: “There is no good news whatsoever… we were told that we would be leaving the EU, taking back full control of our waters and the resource – that has not happened.

“We have been lied to, betrayed, our fishermen and our coastal communities, after five-and-a-half years we still will be tied to the EU through tariffs, aviation and energy.

“There is no [good] come about from this, there is no other words I can describe than the biggest betrayal of this country in a long, long time. “

The Brexit deal sees EU fishing quotas reduced by 15 percent in the first year and then by 2.5 percent annually until 2026.

The fishing quotas for 2021 have been announced and the Total Allowable Catches were set for 70 fishing stocks – but just eight were increased for UK fleets.

The new deal is estimated to be worth £27million more to the UK economy, according to the Department for Environment, Food and Rural Affairs.

UK fleet will have around 26,000 tonnes of fish in the latest quota arrangements compared with the allocation in 2020.

The total value UK-EU fishing opportunities for the UK in 2021 is approximately £333million, which is around 160,000 tonnes.

Environment Secretary George Eustice said: “As we move forward as an independent coastal State, we have been steadfast in representing the interests of our industry and seeking to manage our fisheries more sustainably.

“This agreement provides certainty to our fishing industry and we now have a stable platform in place for managing our fisheries this year and in future years.”
