Advance Auto Parts giving away Club steering-wheel locks in Denver

A chain of auto parts stores is partnering with the Denver Police Department to help curb automobile thefts.

Advance Auto Parts is donating 200 steering wheel lock devices — known as The Club — to be given away free at participating stores. The Denver Police Department described The Club as a visual and physical deterrent to auto thieves in a news release.

The following Advanced Auto Parts locations will give away 50 clubs, while supplies last, on specific dates and times: 4509 Tower Road and 4090 E. Iliff Ave., from 4 to 6 p.m. Thursday; and 4545 W. Colfax Ave. and 2319 S. Federal Blvd., from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. Saturday.

“Our local Advance team is proud to partner with Denver police to play a role in curbing auto thefts,” Michael Vigil, Advance district manager, said in a news release. “We’re hopeful that this giveaway makes a real impact to motorists while preventing crime in our community.”

Officers and volunteers will attend the events to raise awareness about the police department’s DenverTrack, a stolen vehicle recovery program that uses tracking devices.

“Crime prevention is a partnership, which is demonstrated here through the generosity of Advance Auto Parts,” said Denver police Chief Thomas. “We encourage vehicle owners to take advantage of these free events to receive The Club and additional information for preventing auto thefts.”
