Afternoon rain, hail expected in Denver metro area

Colorado can expect another gloomy afternoon as the promise of rain looms.

Lisa Kriederman, forecaster for the National Weather Service, said that the metro area can expect less than a quarter inch of rain, but southeastern Colorado may see a stronger storm.

Along with the rain, Denver residents can expect hail ranging from the size of a pea to about a half inch in diameter. Going toward Limon, residents may see hail of up to an inch in diameter.

Kriderman said the predicted 40 miles per hour wind gusts could increase the storm’s intensity in the metro area, however it’s nothing Coloradans should be worried about.

There is a chance the afternoon storm may continue on into the early evening, but Kriederman said it won’t stick around for too long.

“This will be an earlier show than we’re used to,” Kriederman said.
