The UK will seek to “rigorously and robustly defend all of our values” in the stand against China, Dominic Raab has assured.

The Foreign Secretary had previously said that there is “no doubt” it will not be “business as usual” with China once the coronavirus crisis is over.

Beijing has since issued threats that China could inflict substantial damage on the British economy as retaliation.

When asked about how the UK’s future relationship with the nation, Mr Raab said: “In relation to 5G, there is a review ongoing about its application.

“In relation to Hong Kong, I think we’ve put out a clear position, which is that China would be in direct conflict with the assurances that they have made in the past if they were to go ahead with this new security law.

“That’s not business-as-usual, but it’s also fair and right to say we want to have a balanced approach with China.

“At the same time, we’re going to rigorously and robustly defend all of our values, as we will over Hong Kong.”
