A man has been arrested after a video apparently showing him punching a cat went viral.
The video, which was shared on social media, is said to show a man holding a small cat in the street by the scruff of its neck, before punching it and throwing the animal to the floor.
The disgusting footage was so upsetting that it prompted people to call the police, and to identify the individual.
A Bedfordshire Police spokesman said: "We want to thank the public for making us aware of the incident.
"A 19-year-old man from Luton has been arrested on suspicion of animal cruelty and is currently in police custody.

"As this is an ongoing investigation we would ask you to refrain from sharing the video and for existing posts to be removed."
There has been a worrying increase in violent attacks on animals recently as thugs take advantage of their gentle and trusting, inquisitive natures.

Boris' owner was told by the vet that they had found evidence that someone had tied a firework to the terrified pet, causing the nightmare injuries.
And earlier this month, a devastated mum slammed vile yobs who "tortured" her cat to death before dumping the blood-soaked body in an alleyway.
Chess Pitchford discovered Shelby's corpse abandoned just yards from her home.
To her horror, the nine-month-old cat's tail had been cleanly sliced off and discarded just a few steps away, Stoke on Trent Live reported.
Other injuries to the cat – named after the Shelby family in Peaky Blinders – included burn marks to the paws, a swollen eye and bloody cuts and bruises.
The 26-year-old, of Stanley Street, is certain the injuries were the work of a "madman" cat killer rather than an accident.
