Diana would have guided Meghan through split from Royal Family, expert claims

Princess Diana’s photographer has claimed that the late Princess of Wales would have liked Meghan Markle, and would have helped “guide her through” her exit from the Royal Family with husband Prince Harry.

Princess Diana passed away in a traffic collision in 1997, and Harry has often referenced his mother's lasting impact on his life, with one expert recently calling the late princess a “third wheel” in his relationship with his wife.

After marrying in a lavish royal ceremony in May 2018, Harry and Meghan took the decision to step back from their royal responsibilities in March last year.

The couple's shift into civilian life hasn’t been without controversy, with some commentators critical of their decision to take on a wide variety of new business ventures.

But despite this reportedly frictional transition, when asked by host Natalie Oliveri on 9Honey, whether Diana would have been friends with the Duchess of Sussex, Kent responded positively, saying: "I do, I think she would have tried, certainly to try and guide her and help her through."

The photographer, who captured images of Prince William's wedding among other royal events, also claimed that the late princess would have supported the different paths her two sons have taken.

“She would have understood that. Bear in mind Diana was very much in love with the Queen, she supported the Queen totally,” he suggested.

“So she would have in a way, tried to have guided it through."

With the explosive Oprah Winfrey interview broadcast in March used by Meghan as an opportunity to share the struggles she had experienced since joining the Royal Family, Kent claims to not be surprised that the Duchess had found it difficult fitting in.

He continued: “I couldn’t see myself at the time how Meghan – this Hollywood movie star – living the lifestyle that she had, how she was going to understand the workings of the monarchy, the dos and the don'ts, and the things you can do and can’t do.

“And that’s one of the things that she couldn’t accept, and of course she didn’t get any support, as we now know from the palace, according to the Oprah interview, and everything that is subsequently coming out.”

Although suggesting that the Queen would “like” the Duke and Duchess to eventually return to the royal fold, Kent acknowledged that “only time will tell.”

Looking to the near future, royal experts have been speculating at when Harry and Meghan might next return to the UK to visit the Royal Family.

And, with Christmas approaching, one expert suggested that Harry and Meghan might skip a festive visit, and instead release their own holiday message to their US fanbase.
