El Chapo and Jeffrey Epsteins glam ex-lawyer to defend another Mexican druglord

A lawyer and singer who was part of the legal team of El Chapo has now been hired to represent another notorious drug lord.

Mariel Colon, 30, from Puerto Rico, left law school and her first two clients were Joaquín "El Chapo" Guzmán and Jeffrey Epstein, according to her website.

She said she applied for the gig defending the drug lord after seeing it on Craigslist when she was 26.

“I think I’ve heard that name?” she remembers thinking when the hiring attorney told her whom the firm would be representing. “Then I googled who this person was and I’m like, 'Holy s**t!'"

And now, she is set to defend the accused Ruben Oseguera Gonzalez – alias El Menchito – during a trial set to take place in the United States on April 21.

The accused is reportedly facing trial for drug trafficking and illegal weapons possession and is believed to be the second in command of the Jalisco Nueva Generacion Cartel (CJNG) in Mexico.

He reportedly denied the allegations during a hearing at the District of Columbia court on April 12.

Afterwards, he announced his new legal representation – Ms Colon Miro.

After launching her new single 'La Abogada' ('The Lawyer'), Mariel apparently went back to the courtroom, insisting she can and will have two careers that she loves.

She and the lawyer Arturo Hernandez will work together to defend El Menchito, who has been in and out of jail in Mexico numerous times before being extradited to the US in 2020.

Her newest client is reportedly the son of Nemesio Cervantes ('El Mencho'), one of the US' most wanted men and leader of the CJNG who is currently on the run.

El Menchito was allegedly the second in command of the CJNG until January 2014, when he was arrested by police in Mexico.

Despite this, he did not go to prison due to a lack of evidence against him.

In June 2015, he was arrested again, this time accused of being the alleged financial operator of the Cartel.

He was released a month later and re-arrested just as his release order was made official on charges of money laundering.

In 2017, the District of Columbia court charged El Menchito with international drug trafficking and accused him of smuggling narcotics from Mexico to the US since 2007.

He was extradited to the US in February 2020.
