An 84-year-old man is fighting for his life after he was brutally attacked over the weekend outside his home.
The elderly man suffered serious head and facial injuries after being attacked in Cannington in the Australian city of Perth’s southern suburbs on Sunday evening.
it is understood he left his home at about 7pm to investigate a disturbance happening outside and was then attacked.
Horrifying photos shop the pensioner with blood pouring from wounds in his head and cheek, which had spilled onto his shirt.
The pensioner also suffered a broken nose and a black eye.
Acting Detective Sergeant Alexandra said a weapon was used in what she branded a “cowardly, disgusting and appalling act”.
She continued: “This is an 84-year-old man who’s lived in this suburb for 40 years and he’s been brutally assaulted in his front yard.
“They are horrific, horrific injuries that this man has sustained to his face.”
Police was found by officers before being taken to Royal Perth Hospital by paramedics where he is currently waiting for surgery in intensive care.
Officers later said there appeared to be no reason or motive behind the attack.

They are searching for two white men aged between 25 and 35 who have been identified as people of interest.
Detectives have since asked for people who have active CCTV or dash cam footage of the assault to please come forward.
No arrests have been made at this time.
