Prince William and Prince Harry were united in grief at the Duke of Edinburgh's funeral – sparking hopes that the royal feud may be coming to an end.

Cameras captured the moment the brothers edged physically and emotionally closer at their grandad's funeral helped by Kate Middleton, despite not walking shoulder to shoulder during the cortege.

However, they were snapped chatting after the service after the Duchess of Cambridge gave them space to reconnect.

After the moving service for Prince Philip, 30 mourners gathered at the side gate to bid farewell to the Queen as she made an emotional exit from St George’s Chapel at Windsor Castle.

Perhaps sensing an opportunity to break the ice, Harry positioned himself alongside his brother’s wife, who in times gone by he lovingly described as “like a sister to me”.

Since Prince Philip’s death, royal watchers have speculated that his loss, the Queen’s grief and Harry’s presence at the funeral, might start a royal reconciliation between royal brothers.

The Times' royal editor Roya Nikkhah said the frost "might be beginning to thaw".

The American television presenter Gayle King, a friend of the couple and Oprah, claimed the first conversation between the brothers was “not productive” after the scandal.

Friends say Prince William is now “much calmer” but no less “devastated” by the damage done.

However, the moment after the service has lead people to believe the frost might be beginning to thaw.

Yesterday, royal expert Richard Fitzwilliams told the Daily Star: "Prince Philip's funeral was a deeply moving ceremony and in a way, coronavirus gave it a simplicity that made it so very intimate for the Royal Family.
