Documents filed this week provide a further clue that Meghan Markle and Prince Harry have no plans to return to the UK in the foreseeable future.
The Duke and Duchess of Sussex had set up a foundation – briefly and controversially known as Sussex Royal – in July 2019 as an umbrella organisation for their charity work.
But now the nonprofit organisation, renamed in 2020 as MWX Trading, is being closed down completely.
Documents filed with Companies House show that the couple made a formal request to shut down the charity on May 4, 2021. They also appointed a liquidator to supervise the winding-down of the foundation.
The move is a strong hint that Meghan and Harry have no current plans for operations in the UK.
Harry has already hinted strongly that he hopes to make California his permanent home, telling Oprah Winfrey in their Match 202 interview that he loved living in LA because he likes "to have outdoor space where I can go for walks with Archie …and we go for walks as a family and with the dogs.
“You know, we go on hikes or go down to the beach, which is so close,” he added.
The young Prince reveals in his upcoming mental health documentary series with Oprah Winfrey, The Me You Can’t See, that he still suffers from the trauma of his mother’ sudden death.
He as said in the past that he didn’t allow himself to think about her death for many years, before eventually getting help after a period of “total chaos”.
But, he says in the new documentary, the best thing you can do in those situation is to ask for help: “To make that decision to receive help is not a sign of weakness,” he says.
“In today’s world, more than ever, it is a sign of strength.”
Meghan makes a brief appearance in the show’s trailer, smiling and wearing a T-shirt that says “Raising the Future” in a reference to the couple’s son and the daughter they will soon welcome.
The Sussexes' daughter is expected to be born in the next few months. While the exact due date has not been made public, the couple told Oprah they were due in the “summertime.”
It’s not yet known when, if ever, Her Majesty the Queen will get the opportunity to meet her new granddaughter.
