How Prince Harry, Kate Middleton and Prince William did in their A-levels

Getting through the nerves and excitement, disappointment and delight of A-level results day is a rite of passage many people share.

It is a milestone moment for many and for members of the Royal Family it was no different, but one came in top of the class and one very important Royal has no qualifications at all.

This year's summer exams were cancelled because of Covid-19, meaning in an unprecedented step around 300,000 school leavers are receiving calculated grades this week.

And many have been left disappointed this year as exam boards downgraded nearly two in five (39.1%) pupils' grades in England, according to data from Ofqual.

They may not have had a pandemic to contend with but like the rest of the nation Prince William, Prince Harry, Kate Middleton, and other members of the Royal Family have a variety of A-levels between them.

The Queen who was homeschooled with Princess Margaret has no formal qualifications, despite having a natural aptitude for learning.

Prince William got a C in Biology, a B in the History of Art and an A in Geography at Eton College.

The Duchess of Cambridge attended Marlborough College in Wiltshire.

Kate Middleton came out with As in Maths and Art, and a B in English.

The couple then both ended their studies at the University of St Andrews, where they met and William scored a Masters of Arts degree in Geography and Kate a degree in Art History.

Prince Harry meanwhile attended a B in art and a D in Geography for his A-levels at Eton back in 2003.

"Exams were always a nightmare, but anything like kicking a ball around or playing PlayStation – or flying – I do generally find a little bit easier than walking, sometimes," Harry said after his results.

It hasn't held him back however and after a gap year in Australia and Lesotho, Harry landed a coveted spot at the Royal Military Academy Sandhurst.

The Princes' mum Diana reportedly joked about her own intellect describing herself as "thick as a plank".

The “People’s Princess” went to the exclusive West Heath Girls' School in Kent, where she failed her O-level exams twice.

Despite this, she awarded an accolade for her strong sense of community spirit.

"I was always told by my family that I was the thick one and that my brother was the clever one and I was always so conscious of that," Diana once said.

She rounded off her education at an elite finishing school in Switzerland called Institut Alpin Videmanette.

Prince Charles meanwhile got two A-levels with a B in History and a C in French.

He attended university at Cambridge and University College of Wales afterwards, where he studied archaeology and anthropology.

A surprise contender, Princess Eugenie leads the pack on grades. with two As and a B beating Beatrice, who banked a A in drama and Bs in history and film studies.

Beatrice went on to get a 2:1 from Goldsmith's in History of Ideas.

Eugenie studied English Literature, history of art and politics at Newcastle and graduated at the end of her three-year course in 2012 with a 2:1.
