Ivanka fury: Trump’s daughter savaged for flouting social-distancing rules – ‘hypocrisy!’

The US President’s eldest daughter travelled with her husband Jared Kushner and their three children to the Trump National Golf Club Bedminster in New Jersey to spend the Passover holiday earlier this month. New Jersey is currently one of the epicentre’s of the coronavirus pandemic that is sweeping through the United States. More than 71,000 infections have been reported and there have been over 3,000 deaths, making the state the second worst COVID-19 afflicted area after New York.

Ivanka has on numerous occasions taken to social media to urge her fellow Americans to observe social distancing rules issued by the White House.

In a tweet on March 18, she wrote: “Practice social distancing & save lives!

“Follow all CDC guidelines and please, please stay home if you are able! #TogetherApart.”

In a video posted on March 23, she thanked “those who are self-isolating and self-quarantining and following the CDC guidelines.”

She added: “We’re all in this together.

“We’ll emerge from this stronger than ever before, and maybe more deeply and profoundly connected with our own humanity and our core values.”

When Donald Trump announced that social distancing restrictions would remain in place until April 30, Ivanka once again posted a video urging compliance with her father’s orders.

She said: “It goes without saying that this will be an enormous challenge for all of us individually and collectively.

“But those lucky enough to be in a position to stay at home, please, please do so.

“Each and every one of us plays a role in slowing the spread and social distancing saves lives.”

Ivanka’s critics immediately took to social media to attack her and her husband for their actions, accusing them of hypocrisy.

Philip Rucker, White house bureau chief for the Washington Post, tweeted: “Federal guidelines against discretionary travel and DC’s stay at home order apparently don’t apply if you’re Ivanka Trump or Jared Kushner.”

While Joe Lockhart, a former press secretary for Bill Clinton, commented: “There is not a single rule that applies to Ivanka and Jared.

“They are the chosen ones and it’s only the rest of us that have to follow the rules.”

The White House issued a statement in which it strongly defended the couple for visiting the golf club.

It said that that the family had practised social distancing and stayed at a family venue that was closed to the public.

The statement read: “Ivanka – with her immediate family – celebrated Passover at a closed down facility considered to be a family home.

“The location was less populated than the surrounding area near her home in D.C.

“Her travel was not commercial. She chose to spend a holiday in private with her family.”

Mr Kushner, who plays a leading role in devising the White House strategy towards combatting COVID-19, has since returned to Washington, leaving Ivanka in Bedminster, according to the new York Times.

On Sunday, Ivanka shared a picture of herself with her daughter Arabella, and the face masks they had made.

The Center for Disease Control and Prevention have recently issued new guidelines, advising people to wear face masks in public.
