Man ‘shot’ outside supermarket as ‘armed police rush to utter chaos’ in street

Armed police rushed to the scene of a shooting outside a supermarket, witnesses have said.

Police, paramedics and forensics have been spotted at the scene outside the Farmfoods store in Mexborough, Doncaster in Yorkshire.

Witnesses claim a man in his 20s was shot at the scene, with some claiming he died of his injuries but the details have not yet been confirmed by the emergency services.

Police have stated they were in the area following reports of a shooting and a large cordon is in place, writes YorkshireLive.

Witnesses described it as a "scene of chaos" after the incident unfolded at around 5pm on Monday night.

Photos from the scene also show a white police tent close to the supermarket and near to a bus stop, as well as multiple police vehicles.

Yorkshire Ambulance also sent various resources to the incident, but according to claims by witnesses a victim died despite desperate attempts to revive him.

South Yorkshire Police have said: "Police were called to Wath Road, Mexborough, at 4.46pm today (Monday) following reports of a shooting.

“Officers are currently at the scene as investigations continue.

“Anyone who witnessed the incident, or who has any information which may help the investigation, is asked to call 101 quoting incident number 495 of 11 January 2021.”

But there has been no news as to confirming if anyone was injured from the incident.

Eyewitnesses described the scene as "utter chaos", and South Yorkshire Fire and Rescue also attended the scene with fire crews assisting officers.

Forensics were seen combing the street outside the store for evidence.

The road was cordoned off for several hours since the early evening and a heavy police presence remained.
