Meghan’s TV chat ‘like Diana getting revenge on royal family from beyond grave’

Prince Harry and Meghan’s tell-all interview is "like Princess Diana is getting revenge from beyond the grave" on Buckingham Palace, her biographer has said.

Andrew Morton said the Duke of Sussex’s late mother was the "trailblazer" in speaking out against the British monarchy.

He made the comments hours after the couple's interview with Oprah Winfrey aired in the US.

The journalist told ITV's Good Morning Britain: "I think the irony is she would be enjoying it. It’s almost like Diana’s getting her revenge from beyond the grave.

"I mean, remember she was the trailblazer in this, she put the boot into Prince Charles 20-odd years ago.

"She talked about wanting to be the queen of people’s hearts, which prompted the Queen herself to get involved in their divorce."

Host Piers Morgan responded: "She wouldn’t want William and Harry at war, they don’t talk at the moment. I know for a fact they’re not talking."

Mr Morton replied saying there was "no question" that she would want her sons to repair their damaged relationship.

He said: "No, there’s no question at all that she would want William and Harry to reconcile.

"But remember, she was actually thinking of moving to Malibu. She was going to buy Julie Andrews’ house… And also, Oprah was going to interview her and then Martin Bashir swooped in."

The biographer worked secretly with the Princess of Wales to tell her story about life in the Royal Family. In 1995, she revealed to Martin Bashir on BBC Panorama that there were "three" people in her marriage to Princes Charles.

Prince Harry told interviewer Oprah Winfrey that his mother would be "angry and very sad" to see how things have turned out.

Prince Charles has been said to be "in a state of despair" over the Sussexes' claims in the show set to air on ITV at 9pm.

  • Six unanswered questions from explosive Prince Harry and Meghan Markle interview

The Prince of Wales's hopes to become a "popular King" were dashed as his son revealed he "felt let down" by him, a pal told Vanity Fair.

The Duke of Sussex denied "blindsiding" the Queen over his and Meghan Markle's decision to be interviewed.

Royal experts have said the interview might be as damaging as Princess Diana’s 1995 Panorama sit-down with Martin Bashir.

Sarah Gristwood said: “I think the interview is as major as Diana’s Panorama interview definitely, and there are similarities.

“It does have the sense of the Diana style burning of boats.

"What’s worrying for the monarchy and public perception of the monarchy is that we thought Diana’s death had triggered a big shift. Now it’s looking as though actually not enough has changed."
