A politician battered her 12-year-old son over the head with a dumbbell before encasing his corpse in concrete – because he went on a sleepover.

Schoolboy Alexander Parakhnyakov died "on the spot" after the savage attack on March 5 in the city of Astrakhan, Russia.

That day, he was confronted by his mum Galina Morozova, 56, after getting back from a friend’s house.

Investigators said: During the quarrel, the woman grabbed a dumbbell and hit the boy on the head several times.

"He died from his injuries on the spot. The mother hid his body in the basement and poured it with cement.

"Then she put the boy’s smartphone and the dumbbell into a plastic bag and threw it into the river."

Morozova told cops that her son had gone missing and posted desperate appeals on social media over the next three months.

Officers and volunteers scoured the surrounding area near the family home but found no trace of him.

In June this year, they turned their attention to the boy's family after getting an anonymous tipoff.

Investigators then discovered the boy's body buried in concrete at his grandmother's house.

Morozova confessed to the murder and told the police where to find his telephone and the dumbbells.

She told detectives she was furious that he had decided to stay over at a friend’s house.

Her neighbours said that Morozova was a perfect mum and a successful businessman, and were shocked by the killing.

She worked for various state committees in the region and was once a local politician, although she was kicked out of the party for being "too ambitious".

Morozova has since been jailed for 14 years.
