Murder probe launched after man ‘mown down by car in Halfords car park’

A murder investigation has been launched after a man was hit with a car and killed in a Halfords car park.

Police were called to the car park at Halfords Coventry Road in Sheldon, Birmingham, just before midnight on Friday, April 9.

The force found a 20-year-old man under a white VW Golf with serious head injuries.

West Midlands Police said the individual received treatment but was pronounced dead a short time later, BirminghamLive reported.

According to the force, members of the public had detained a 25-year-old man at the scene in connection with the incident.

Officers then arrested the man on suspicion of murder, but have not charged him as their investigation continues.

Police remain at the scene of the alleged crime today (April 10), with pictures showing a large police presence.

A blue forensic tent can also be seen, and detectives are in the process of recovering CCTV footage from nearby Halfords.

The friends and family of the victim are being supported by specially trained officers and a post-mortem will be held in due course.

A spokesman West Midlands Police said: "We’ve launched a murder investigation after the death of a man who was run over on a car park in Birmingham last night (Friday).

"Our officers were called to reports of disorder in the car park of Halfords on Coventry Road, Sheldon, just before midnight.

"He had serious head injuries and was pronounced dead a short time later.

"Members of the public detained a 25-year-old man at the scene and he was then arrested on suspicion of murder.
