One person seriously injured in South Auckland incident, police at scene

A person has been rushed to hospital in a serious condition after an incident on a South Auckland suburban street this afternoon.

Both police and St John have been tight-lipped about the nature of the incident, but police confirmed one person has been taken to hospital with serious injuries after they were called to Friedlanders Rd, Manurewa, at 2.11pm.

A spokesperson said “inquiries are ongoing to determine the circumstances”.

A spokeswoman for St John said they attended the incident at about 2.30pm. She referred all other inquiries to police.

But a neighbour told the Herald at the scene this afternoon the incident is understood to involve a child or infant who was found “unresponsive in a car”.

The neighbour said it was understood they had been found in the vehicle’s boot.

Police are preparing to tow the vehicle from the scene.

A local resident told the Herald said cones had been put out to block off Friedlanders Road from Astor Place to past the scene of an incident.

The man said it was the second time this afternoon cones had been put out, saying his flatmate tried to come home earlier but had been turned back.

He said he had just seen a police car drive past his home and could see two uniformed police officers outside a house further up the street.

There had also been a woman in dark green overalls a little earlier.
