Power outages impacting more than 4,000 Xcel customers in the Denver metro area were reported Thursday morning, mostly west of downtown.
The worst of the outages is in Lakewood, near the intersection of Alameda Avenue and Union Boulevard. Xcel Energy first reported that outage around 7 a.m. and said it impacted 2,922 customers.
Several other outages affected an area between 6th Avenue and Mississippi Avenue, west of Kipping Street. The first of these outages on the west side of town was reported around 5:30 a.m. Earlier in the morning, there were also outages in Louisville and Superior.
The power outage in Lakewood turned off traffic lights in the area, including at Alameda and Kipping, which caused traffic delays Thursday.
RTD’s W line lost power for about 20 minutes before 8 a.m. An RTD spokesperson said there may be delays as trains work to get back on schedule.
According to Xcel Energy’s website, power was restored before 8:30 a.m.
Xcel Energy has not said what the cause of the outages is.
