Prince Harry ‘didn’t hold back’ from digs at dad Prince Charles in Oprah chat

Prince Harry was careful to be "warm" when talking about The Queen in his Oprah Winfrey interview but did not "hold back" in criticising Prince Charles, according to a royal expert.

Giving insight into the explosive sit-down chat with Harry and his wife Meghan Markle, ITV royal editor Chris Ship and royal producer Lizzie Robinson noted Harry got "emotional" talking about his father.

The prince was also quick to say he felt "disappointed" with the level of support his father gave him during the fallout of Megxit when he and Meghan moved first to Canada and then later settled in California.

Discussing the interview in the podcast Royal Rota, Chris notes: "He didn’t really hold back with his father though, did he?

"'He’s not taking my calls, he stopped my money, he stopped my security,' I don’t think Harry held back on the dad."

Lizzie said the troubled relationship was "really sad" and added: "From Harry’s point of view, his father he says, stopped taking his calls and stopped supporting them.

"I mean, Prince Charles was the man that walked his wife down the aisle on their wedding day because her own father couldn’t be there.

"He was there supporting them when they were making that initial move and paying for it until they were able to stand on their own two feet."

Chris added: "Harry looked quite wounded, he was actually asked by Oprah if Prince Charles had started taking his calls again and I think that was the most emotional Harry got."

In an extract of the Oprah interview, which aired in the US on Sunday, March 7 on CBS, Harry looks down at his lap when she asks if his dad is talking to him now.

"There’s a lot to work through there," Harry says, "I feel really let down because he’s been through something similar."

"He knows what pain feels like and Archie is his grandson.

"At the same time, of course, I will always love him, but there’s a lot of hurt that’s happened and I will try to make it one of my priorities to try and heal that relationship."

This comes after a Palace insider alleged Prince Charles thinks Harry "trashed" the Royal Family in public.
