Russia’s Foreign Ministry spokesperson Maria Zakharova, 45, claimed Victoria Nuland, 60, has been removed from Moscow’s blacklist following America lifting a similar ban on a Russian citizen. The move will enable Under-Secretary Nuland to arrive in Moscow later today to discuss bilateral, regional and global issues with officials from the Kremlin.
Ms Zakharova reportedly told the state-owned news agency RIA: “She [Nuland] was actually on our sanctions lists that mean that a person cannot cross the border.
“They [the US] included Russian representatives and foreign policy experts on their sanctions list.
“So, in this case, the question was resolved on a parity basis.
“Yes, she will be in Russia.”

Reuters reports Ms Zakhrova later claimed a Russian citizen had been removed from Washington’s sanctions list.
Russian-American relations are said to have reached post-Cold War lows in 2014 after Vladimir Putin orchestrated the annexation of Crimea from Ukraine.
Since then, including under the presidency of Donald Trump, relations between Washington and Moscow have continued to sour.
President Joe Biden has since introduced a number of sanctions after the poisoning of opposition leader Alexey Navalny, the SolarWinds hack and the alleged interference in the 2020 US election.
But the 46th President did hold a one-to-one meeting with Putin at a summit in June.
The State Department has issued a statement detailing Ms Nuland’s October tour.
They said: “Under Secretary of State Victoria Nuland will travel to Moscow, Russia on October 11 to meet with senior officials and other interlocutors to discuss a range of bilateral, regional, and global issues.”
After visiting Russia, Ms Nuland will visit Lebanon and the United Kingdom.

“She will then travel to Beirut, Lebanon on October 14 for meetings with Lebanese representatives of civil society and government leaders to discuss economic reforms and elections next year,” the State Department added.
“Under Secretary Nuland will then travel to London, UK on October 15 to meet with senior government officials on a range of global issues.”
