A powerful earthquake measuring 6.3 on the Richter scale has hit near the coast of northern Chile, sparking a tsunami warning.
The quake struck near Vallenar, Chile, sparking fears of a tsunami in the Pacific.
Initial reports suggested the quake measured 6.8, but the the GFZ German Research Center for Geosciences has since revised the number.
It earlier showed the magnitude as 7 and 6.7, with the quake at a depth of 10 kilometers (6.2 miles).
There was no tsunami threat from the earthquake, the Pacific Tsunami Warning Center said.

A tsunami warning was in place, with Pacific islands monitoring the situation.
KITV4 in Hawaii reports: "The Pacific Tsunami Warning Center confirms that there is no tsunami threat to the Hawaiian islands after a 6.8 magnitude earthquake occurred off the coast of Northern Chile on Monday."
The San Francisco Chronicle reported that the he United States Geological Survey detected the quake at 9.09pm local time.
The news site reported the quake could be felt far beyond the epicenter and was potentially disastrous.
