UK snow: Chilling chart shows heavy snowfall to pummel Britain through end of January

UK weather: Chart shows Britain set to be hit by heavy snow

The WX CHARTS map shows heavy snow piling up across all four countries within Britain for the next week at least. Scotland is expected to experience the most severe snowfall while southern England will see a smaller amount of snow.

The BBC has issued a long-range forecast covering the period between Monday, January 18 and Sunday, January 24.

The BBC said: “There is still a lot of uncertainty on the westward extent of the cold air, and we could see a few cold blasts mixed in with our overall milder, wetter weather.

“As a result, this week is likely to continue to see some volatile swings in temperature along with some wet and windy days.

“Fronts moving in over a cold snap will bring a chance of snow.

“There is a risk of more widespread cold, as we have seen in previous years with a displaced polar vortex.”

The BBC’ added that the cold air is being pushed to the UK from the Arctic, with the end of the month expected to see more snow outbreaks.

The long-range forecast said: “Through mid-January the weather will turn unsettled and begin to become rather changeable, with some highly variable temperatures expected for the next few weeks.

“This is due to the colder Arctic air being displaced into Scandinavia and Russia from the polar vortex.

“This air will occasionally feed into the UK, bringing some colder than normal days mixed with days of milder sub-tropical air pushing in from the southwest.

“As we head later into January and early February, there is a growing risk that the cold outbreak will become more widespread and longer-lived.”

On Friday morning, Matt Taylor told BBC Breakfast that will be snow overnight and into the weekend across parts of the UK.

He said: “There is another weather system pushing its way in tonight.
