A group of six Israeli men are set to appear in court this week after allegedly gang raping a British tourist while on holiday in Ayia Napa, Cyprus.<\/p>\n
The men, all aged either 19 or 20, are claimed to have attacked the 20-year-old unnamed British woman at her hotel in Famagusta.<\/p>\n
She reported to the incident to Cypriot police, how have now arrested all five men based on the victim's description, and they will appear in court today (September 4).<\/p>\n

A spokesman for Israel's Foreign Affairs ministry said: \u201cOn Monday morning, the Israeli embassy in Cyprus was notified of the arrest of six Israeli citizens suspected of raping a British tourist.<\/p>\n

\u201cThe Israeli consul in Cyprus is in contact with the authorities in Cyprus.<\/p>\n
\u201cThe department for Israelis abroad at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs is in contact with the families of the arrested citizens.\u201d<\/p>\n
Reports on exactly how many were arrested vary, with Israeli media and officials claiming it is six, as a spokesman at the island's police headquarters in Nicosia said that only five \u201cwere detained overnight in a cell following the charges\u201d.<\/p>\n
They added: \u201cThey will appear today before Famagusta's district court.<\/p>\n
\u201cWe have not released their ages but can confirm that they are all young.\u201d <\/p>\n
The arrests took placed at the same time as Israel's Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu landing in the country for his first visit in nearly six months. <\/p>\n

The Daily Star has contacted the UK's Foreign Office for clarification on whether it is five or six men arrested.<\/p>\n
It is the second time an incident such as this has happened in the country, after a British woman overturned a conviction of \u201clying\u201d after being allegedly gang-raped by 12 Israeli tourists in the Cyprus in 2019 when she was aged just 18.<\/p>\n
Despite the overturning, the case was never re-opened by local police, with a source confirming that \u201cit is a closed case\u201d.<\/p>\n
