Ben Habib sets out Reform UK’s position on Braverman’s sacking

Suella Braverman has used a weekend interview to blast Rishi sunak as “timid and tepid” claiming that it was his refusal to change direction which has left his illegal immigration policy in tatters.

The former Home Secretary, who was sacked on Monday by Sunak, gave her first interview to a Sunday newspaper since the reshuffle on Monday and laid out her claims on the Rwanda fiasco.

The reshuffle was quickly followed by the Supreme Court blocking the Rwanda deportation scheme.

And it emerged that Ms Braverman had told Sunak six time he needed to change his approach to the policy or end up with the current crisis.

The former Home Secretary has always been an advocate of leaving the European Convention of Human Rights (ECHR), to stop its politicised Strasbourg court from interfering in British policy.

But in response Mr Sunak replaced Ms Braverman with former Foreign Secretary James Cleverly who opposes leaving the ECHR.

He also brought in anti-Brexit former Prime Minister David Cameron to be the new Foreign Secretary.

Speaking to the Mail on Sunday, Ms Braverman said: “We’ve seen hundreds of thousands of people take to the streets on a weekly basis chanting anti-Semitic slogans, celebrating acts of terrorism, threatening community cohesion and undermining British values.

“There had been tepid and timid statements from the Prime Minister throughout the course of this issue and I felt there was a real opportunity for him to demonstrate some moral leadership, to demonstrate this is not what Britain stands for, that we are an inclusive, tolerant and respectful nation whereby violence on the streets is unacceptable.

“I felt that was wholly lacking.”
