A big change is reportedly coming to alcohol laws in a post-Brexit win.

Ministers are said to be bringing back pints of Champagne and wine within months. It would be the first time pint-sized bottles have been allowed since they were outlawed by Brussels, reports The Sun.

The move would mean a return of the measures beloved by Sir Winston Churchill. The wartime Prime Minister is said to have declared a pint is “enough for two at lunch and one at dinner”.

Around 60% of Champagne sales in the UK were in pint-sized bottles. But they were outlawed in 1973 when Britain joined the European Common Market.

A plan to bring back the pint measures was floated in 2021. But it has reportedly been held up by a series of legal delays.

The Department for Business and Trade has now reportedly told other Whitehall sectors the ban will soon be lifted. Government insiders say a consultation with the champagne and English sparkling wine industries is “imminent”.

Changes to the weights and measures legislation would then pave the way for pint-sized wine servings. They could then return “early next year”.

A business department source told The Sun: “This is just the latest win from our push to ditch pointless and restrictive EU rules.
