Britons will have to endure two more snow bombs before Christmas, with temperatures to plummet as low as -10C as the wintry onslaught continues. Cold weather maps released by weather agencies show that when Met Office snow and ice warnings end on Tuesday, December 5, the mercury will climb beyond zero for the first time in a week.

Temperatures will climb back into the low single figures, turning any remaining snow into rain as a “transition” spreads across the country, the Met Office has said. Additional maps show the adjustment may only prove temporary, with another potential decline on the horizon.

Snow showers may continue to pass through the UK over the next two weeks, with meteorologists picking up successive systems likely to batter the country with a combination of conditions. Weather maps from WXCharts and Windy.com show a calmer week ahead for many Britons, with temperatures reaching the low single figures and rain replacing snow.

The last wintry shower appears set to pass over the UK on Wednesday, December 6, tipping out between 1cm and 3cm of snow over Scotland and northern England. Rain will quickly follow the next day, with consecutive showers washing away any snow that has settled over the country as average temperatures reach between 1C and 5C widely, with even Scotland warming slightly by Friday, December 8.

Temperatures could drop by up to 7C in just a few days as another cold spell descends over much of the UK.

Minimum temperature charts show northern Scotland – where it is the snowiest – dropping from 3C to -3C on December 12, with London dropping from 10C to 0C between December 10 and 12.

The maps suggest showers will tip out snow primarily over Scotland, where settled totals could reach 10cm over high ground. Lighter showers will also deposit lesser totals in pockets over the rest of the country, with coverings likely to reach no higher than 1cm over low ground in England, Wales and Northern Ireland by December 13.

Don’t miss…
