A drunk passenger who was kicked off a delayed flight after demanding a refund has been jailed over a series of incidents.

Kieron Jordan, 36, was marched off a plane at Leeds Bradford Airport by police who had received reports of a group of holidaymakers causing disruption. Leeds Crown Court heard this week the man was already intoxicated when he boarded the plane, which was headed for Turkey, on May 20, 2022.

Cabin crew called cops to remove Jordan, of Moortown, Leeds, from the plane after he strode down the aircraft demanding his money back when it was revealed the flight would be late. When officers arrived he then pretended to be asleep in his seat with sunglasses on.

He was told to get up but he repeatedly claimed he didn't understand what was going on, prosecutor Lydia Carroll told the court. He was eventually escorted off the plane and restrained as he asked what he'd done wrong.

During his trial Jordan denied endangering an aircraft but admitted a lesser charge of being drunk on an aircraft, which was accepted. He also admitted several other offences, including racially-aggravated actual bodily harm following an incident at the Royal Park pub in Burley on July 9, 2022.

Jordan, who was already barred from the boozer, verbally abused a bouncer after he was asked to leave and told him to "go back to his own country." He then punched the victim and caused a laceration to his face.

In another incident on November 12, 2022, he pulled a knife out at a convenience store on Alexandra Road, Hyde Park, causing the one staff member behind the counter to press the panic alarm 17 times. The manager then arrived at the store and Jordan lunged at him and kicked him.

He also damaged the store's door before fleeing the scene. Jordan denied a charge of attempted robbery but during a trial admitted an alternative of affray, possessing a bladed article and criminal damage. This was accepted while the attempted robbery charge will lie on file.

Jordan was jailed for 27 months total. He was handed a two-month sentence for the aircraft incident, five for the pub assault and 20 for the shop affray.

Judge Anesh Pema said: "You were drunk on that plane and causing trouble. You were verbally abusive and officers had to board the plane.

"You were found slumped in your seat, drunk. You were not cooperative and clearly intoxicated. Your behaviour was reprehensible.”

Jordan has 32 previous convictions from 44 offences and has been held on remand since January. He appeared in court via video link from HMP Leeds. James Holding, defending, said Jordan had "used his time in custody well" and added he had taken courses and classes while behind bars.

"As with many who come before the courts, the main causes were his drink and drug problems," Holding said.

"They were committed while under the influence of one or the other, or both. He turns to drink and drugs as a coping mechanism. He recognises the impact all of his offending will have had on the complainants across all of these offences.

"He has asked though me to express his apologies to them, to the police and the courts."

Holding added Jordan had struggled with the death of his sister and a resulting murder investigation over the past year.
