The mother of Shani Louk, the German tattoo artist who appeared in horrifying footage having seemingly been killed by Hamas gunmen, claims she has been told her daughter is still alive.

Shani, 22, was seen naked, unconscious and seriously injured on the back of a truck being paraded around Gaza at the weekend. She had been at the Supernova music festival on Saturday (October 7) before it was stormed by Hamas. Some 260 bodies were recovered from the festival site in southern Israel.

Shani's mum Ricarda Louk previously confirmed it was her daughter in the disturbing footage from Gaza. She said: "We were sent a video in which I could clearly see our daughter unconscious in the car with the Palestinians and them driving around the Gaza Strip."

Now, Ricarda has said the family has received word from Gaza that Shani is still alive. Directing her message at authorities, Ricard told German news outlet Bild: "We now have evidence that Shani is alive but has a serious head injury and is in critical condition. Every minute is critical. You have to act quickly and get Shani out of the Gaza Strip! We shouldn’t argue about questions of jurisdiction now!"

Shani reportedly grew up in Israel but had a German passport. She is said to have been a peace campaigner and conscientious objector to military service. Her aunt Orly Louk told Der Spiegel her niece had previously refused to undertake mandatory military service in Israel.

Shani last spoke to her parents during a phone call on Saturday morning, soon after Hamas first launched rockets into Israel. The family said Shani's credit card has since been used in Gaza.

Shani's boyfriend, Orion Hernández Radoux, has also been reported missing following the festival massacre. Many others are thought to have been kidnapped from the festival and taken into Gaza.
